King Island is a real haven for bird life with over 200 species on the almost deserted island, some species are endemic to King Island and Tasmania.
The great attraction for birders is the relative small size of the island on which to find so many birds, only 65kms x 25kms of farmland, bush and beach.
About 1500 souls populate this beautiful isolated jewel in the crown, and only a tiny tourist influx, the real population is the 500,000 odd wallabies bouncing about the place eating grass grown by increasingly frustrated farmers.
Other wildlife include Echidnas, Platypus, Deer, Penguins, Possums, Snakes, Blue Tongues etc, Whales and Dolphins; there's also miles of deserted unspoilt beaches to explore and snap away at the sea and shorebirds.
