Whether for a romantic retreat or action packed family getaway, 28 gates is a luxury Farmstay and Fishery on the historic Bloomfield property in Tasmanias Derwent Valley, one hours drive West of Hobart. This property dates back to 1862 when the first Parsons acquired the land, Michael is now 6th generation farmer.

Transformed from an old shearers quarters, 28 gates is settled onto 5000-acres of working farmland. Landscapes of sweeping pastures, rolling hills and winding lakes provide a stunning backdrop to this luxurious home. Experience farm life firsthand, or simply unwind in this tranquil country setting.

As you're driving down the gravel road leading to the farms entry, you get a sense of the vastness of this property. You're off the beaten path and headed for the real Tassie. Once past the gates and inside, you'll find the simple beauty of this home draws on its surrounds, with polished Tasmanian timbers, a cosy wood fire and a balcony overlooking the homestead. Settle in with the selection of local wines and handmade treats before embarking on the introductory farm tour. Owners Susie and Michael are the perfect hosts, providing you with breakfast goodies sourced from the farm. Fresh eggs, smoky bacon and home-baked bread and home baked cake from Susies kitchen are just some of the delightful ingredients you will enjoy. Home baked meals can be delivered by request, alongside your choice of regional wine and so you don't have to lift a finger.

Keen on fishing.....you have the choice of 4 Lakes on the property stocked with Rainbow Trout, Wild Brown Trout, Brook Trout and Tiger Trout ready for you to catch. If interested, Susie will book a fly fishing guide for you (extra cost but well worth it!). As we are a Private Fishery, you will not need a licence and you can fish all year round, to your hearts content!

Interested in photography tuition? 28 gates is the perfect place to practice your photography....there is plenty of inspiration here for you to improve your skills. We can organise our talented local photographer to come and teach you everything you need to know.

Go for a walk on one of the well marked walking tracks and wind your way through the bush and listen to the birds and you may see a Wedged Tailed Eagle on your travels. We have over 60 species of bird life and plenty of native animals including Tasmanian Devils, Wallabies, Kangaroos, Possums, Wombats and Quolls. Experience a native wildlife tour which is part of your package.

If interested, you are more than welcome to feed our pets including the horse, sheep, rabbit and chooks. Always a popular experience for the children! There is always plenty to see and do here and space for them to run around and breathe in the fresh country air.
