Eco Cabin in habitat reserve
We have 3x studio eco-cabins (Streamside, Big Tree and Acacia Grove cabins) in an extensive private reserve, in Tasmania's Huon Valley, just 50 minutes south from Hobart. If you require more than one cabin, please mention it on your booking request.
Each cabin is in its own forest setting. Ideal for a couple as standard pricing or can be configured for twin share or 3 people at extra cost.
Queen bed (or bunks), 2 sofas, kitchen with full gas range, utensils, crockery, fridge etc. Indoor shower, bath on deck under the stars. Composting toilet and natural water supply. 12 volt solar electricity.
NB. Huon Bush Retreats prides itself on being a TRUE RETREAT. Your accommodation is free from television and our electricity is 12 volt and USB only so therefore you will be unable to plug in electronic entertainment. Electronic equipment can often be recharged at reception.
Eco facilities include: Natureloo Composting Toilet, 5km of interpreted bushwalks. Wildlife at your door. This private nature reserve is a huge value add. The price you pay includes entry to the nature reserve, walking tracks and your accommodation. Free car parking at each cabin.
Bushwalking
We have a 5km network of walking tracks through rainforest to a mountaintop and small waterfall with historical Interpretation Panels.
Labyrinth Walk
Sooth your soul and take a miniature pilgrimage. A labyrinth is a winding, maze-like path. Labyrinths are still used throughout the world as meditative and healing tools. Huon Bush Retreats gives you the opportunity to discover for yourself the possibilities of the labyrinth.
Native Animal and bird watching.
Huon Bush Retreats is a safe haven for native wildlife. Each Cabin is equipped with basic information on Tasmanian wildlife.
As a "retreat", we give you as much peace and privacy as possible. Mostly self checkin. We are available 24/7 by phone and are usually somewhere onsite.
If you arrive with your groceries, then you can settle into your accommodation without having to worry about going out again.

Rates from 155 AUD to 185 AUD per night
- Check-in after: 2:00:00 PM
- Check-out before: 10:00:00 AM
- Cleaning Fee: 95 AUD
- Up to 30 days before the start of the rental period: 50% of the rental
- 30 days before the start of the rental period: 100% of the rental.
This is an-eco retreat (not a hotel). You will be surrounded by forest and wildlife of many types. It requires some effort to drive from the city, including 4km of narrow winding gravel road, steep in places. you do NOT need 4WD but you do need to drive according to the conditions. Eco-features include: Limited solar electricity, wood fired heating, composting toilet, forest setting.
Reasonable cleaning times are considered to be 20 minutes per cabin plus 10 minutes per person. Unreasonable cleaning is charged at $35 per hour. Damage or breakages greater than fair wear and tear are charged at replacement cost.
Prices shown include four people in two beds. Infants under 1 year old are free only if we do not provide any additional bedding for them. Extra people, extra beds or cots are added at $40/nt.
Late checkouts can often be agreed for $30. Non-agreed late checkouts are charged at $50 per hour.
As an eco-retreat, we are very different from a city hotel. We have 12 volt solar electricity, gas cooking, composting toilets and wood fired heaters. You will be surrounded by wildlife of all sorts, including birds, mammals, arthropods and reptiles. Our seclusion is protected by 4km of winding gravel road, steep in places.
