Villa Padi Menari

Villa Padi Menari is situated 5km north of Ubud town in a beautiful area surrounded by rice fields. Away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, it is a private home catering to discerning, independent travelers who seek an exclusive experience rather than a generic hotel one. Development is slowly creeping up and we are no longer as secluded as before. Guests can walk to several shops and food stalls nearby and there are quite a few new houses next door for company now.

Made predominantly of wood and open to the elements, the villa is rustic and can seem weather-beaten. It is not for you if you are looking for a sterile, immaculate house.

Padi Menari is located on Jalan Tirta Tawar, at the end of Junjungan and the start of Tegallalang district. It is 5km north of Ubud Cultural Market and only 4km to Tegallalang Rice Terrace (approx. 10 mins by scooter). Far removed from tourist trappings, you will require a scooter or a car and driver to get around, something that we can arrange for you easily. The main road in front of the villa has recently been upgraded making the commute easy, safe and fast. The downside is that more traffic is passing by so you will hear traffic noises especially from the bedroom upstairs. We do not have crowing chickens or barking dogs but we do have scooter sounds!

Consisting of 3 bedrooms with ensuite baths, all bedrooms are equipped with air-conditioning and king-sized double beds with the finest hotel quality bedding and linen. A private pool in a lush tropical garden overlooks a spectacular view of paddy fields and coconut groves beyond. Price is inclusive of daily breakfast, housekeeping, fresh water, coffee and tea making facilities and night security.

Padi Menari means Dancing Rice Stalk in Bahasa Indonesia. This very intimate property is on 600 square meter split-level land with the main house sitting on the lower level of the rice terrace. The breezy, spacious main house is approximately 250 square meters with an ensuite bedroom on each floor. Both bedrooms look out onto the lush landscaped gardens and paddy fields beyond. The third room is located in a separate building on the upper level and is known as The Studio. This was recently renovated and has the largest bathroom of all. All the bedrooms are configured to provide privacy and intimacy for individuals whilst the living hall, pool and garden encourages coming together for relaxed, social interaction.

The villa is located in the windy rice field and is very open. We try to keep it as clean as possible but the humidity and residue brought in by winds from the fields makes it a daily battle! We share the land with the indigenous creatures of Bali such as white herons, birds, frogs, tokek (giant gecko), field mice, spiders, green snakes and all sorts of insects. For the most part, they avoid humans but occasionally you may encounter a curious creature seeking refuge. Mostly harmless, may be pesky at times but hey! this is nature. Pest-control and fumigation treatments on ants, mosquitoes and bugs are done occasionally but we prefer to minimise the use of harmful chemicals. You may find insect carcasses in the mornings especially if it rained during the night.

Overlooking the banks of the paddy fields is a 4m x 8m plunge pool (approx. 1.7m deep) that will tantalise you to take a dip after a hot day out. The gardens and pool gives you an elevated view of the paddy fields where you will be tempted to spend your mornings lazing around watching the farmers at work and balmy evenings relaxing with a cool drink in hand.

Padi Menari attempts to evoke your emotions and sensations and to facilitate a Balinese experience - come with an open mind to embrace all possibilities. Whether you are a group of friends seeking to be free and adventurous, a mature family coming together to reconnect and rejuvenate or a couple reigniting passion and romance, be prepared to indulge in liberating yourself from all inhibitions.

Note: Although we love children and have welcomed many families with toddlers and children over the years, Padi Menari is very much an adults getaway and is not designed as a child-safe property due to its open concept and multi-levels. Thus, you will need to be responsible for them at all times.

You will have private use of the entire Villa. Additional services such as cook to prepare meals, massages, laundry, driver & guide, sightseeing tours, cultural shows, cooking classes, etc. can be arranged at a reasonable fee. We can pre-stock the fridge for you with a list of items you require i.e. beer, soft drinks, fresh fruits, snacks, etc. A receipt will be given to you for reimbursement of this expense.

On days or nights when leaving Padi Menari feels like too much trouble, there is the option of takeaway or ordering delivery from a wide variety of Balinese, Indonesian, Asian and international cuisine from nearby restaurants in Ubud. Our staff can scoot out to get your meals if you wish.

Equipped with modern amenities for your comfort such as a fully functional modern kitchen and a multi-platform music docking stereo player. We encourage human and nature interaction and hence have only one TV with cable TV and DVD player in the entire property. This is located in the entertainment corner in the upstairs bedroom.

We finally have high speed fiber optic wireless internet which works well most of the time. However, internet reliability is still a frustrating problem in Bali and is at the mercy of weather conditions and power outages. Electricity stability is getting better with less frequent power failures as the infrastructure of our district is improved.

A simple mobile phone with a prepaid local number will be provided for you to keep in touch with our staff and drivers.

Our philosophy of providing equal employment opportunities and keeping it local means that some of the staff are not technically trained in the hospitality industry and may not be as experienced as those in other commercial establishments. Our villa attendant, security man and gardener are from villages nearby and can be quite shy. For what they may lack in skill, they make up for in honesty and enthusiasm. They are constantly learning and improving and we hope you will not find them lacking too much. They are eager to please and will try their best to meet your needs so please do communicate with them on whatever you need.

Check-in time is 2.00pm, check-out is at 12.00pm
We can accommodate request for slightly earlier check-in and slightly later check-out time if the villa is vacant the night before or the night after your stay. We can only confirm if this is possible the day before you arrive. If it is not possible due to adjacent bookings, we can keep your luggage in the staff room while you wait at the nearby restaurant/cafe.

The villa's orientation is towards the setting sun and can get quite hot during late afternoons. During this time the air conditioning may not be strong enough to combat such intense direct heat especially since the villa is made of wood. It is better to leave the doors and windows open for the breeze to cool down the rooms. The bedroom upstairs is hottest so try to avoid being in it during this time.

Padi Menaris philosophy is based on a deep and enduring love for the natural environment and surroundings. We are concerned with the overall long-term impact of tourism on the island and thus, we strive to promote sustainable practices whilst remaining true to the spirit and culture of Bali. To this end, we try to promote the use of locally produced, ecofriendly products and through actions such as usage of recycle bags, energy saving bulbs, water management, etc. where possible. Purified Aqua water is supplied for drinking and cooking and we encourage you to reuse your water bottles to help reduce waste on the island.
